How Akili collects consent for SMS one-time passcodes

Akili sends text messages for one purpose: delivering a one-time passcode when you enable or use two-factor authentication. This page documents exactly where and how that consent is collected, for carriers, registries, and anyone reviewing our messaging program.

Where the opt-in happens

End users opt in when enabling multi-factor authentication in their Akili account security settings at app.akili.io. The user enters their mobile number and checks a box that reads:

I agree to receive one-time passcodes by SMS from Akili. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.

The box is unchecked by default and is separate from acceptance of the Terms of Service. The Send verification code button stays disabled until it is checked. Because the enrollment screen sits behind authentication, the form is reproduced below.

The SMS enrollment form as it appears at app.akili.io → Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication, reproduced here because the screen requires a signed-in account.

How your number is used

A mobile number added for two-factor authentication is used to deliver passcodes and for nothing else. It is not used for marketing or promotional messages, and it is not shared with third parties for marketing. Removing the number under Settings → Security ends the messages immediately, as does replying STOP.
